FBI Reports Cannabis Busts Increased in 2014 for First Time Because 2009

According to stats included in the just-released Uniform Criminal offense Report compiled by the FBI about all criminal activities in the United States, there were 700,993 marijuana-related arrests made in 2014, up from 693,058 in 2013, with 88 percent of those arrests being for easy ownership.

Typically, this means that there was an American jailed every 45 seconds in 2014for having some type of direct connection with a drug with now understood medical effectiveness that is also legal for recreational use in four states plus Washington, D.C.

. According to Mason Tvert, director of communications for the Cannabis Policy Project, “These numbers refute the misconception that nobody really gets jailed for making use of cannabis. It’s difficult to imagine why more individuals were jailed for marijuana belongings when fewer people than ever think it should be a criminal activity.”
