Cannabis oil supplies vastly outweigh sales, stats show

Newly released data from Health Canada indicates Canadians just aren’t that into cannabis oils.

The agency reports that inventories of cannabis oil greatly outweigh the number of sales.

For the month of June, around 9,600 litres of cannabis oil was sold compared to a total inventory of just over 141,000 litres — that is 14.7 times more inventory than sales.

Sales of cannabis oil also decreased in June by 2.1 percent, but finished inventory actually increased 15 percent, from a little over 85,000 to more than 98,000 litres.

Tech company aims to revolutionize cannabis supply chain

The legal cannabis industry is a work in progress. In many ways, the industry shapes itself as it grows and as more and more places continue to legalize weed.

A key part of this evolutionary process is figuring out what aspects of the burgeoning industry work and what parts don’t, and then searching out solutions to improve the system.

Cannabis logistics company WAYV is the latest example of this evolution. The company just announced the rollout of its “Dynamic Distribution” technology. Designed to streamline the entire supply chain, Dynamic Distribution aims to improve the legal cannabis industry for everyone involved, from cultivators and distributors, to retailers and consumers.

1 under-the-radar cannabis stock to consider buying

The marijuana industry continues its inexorable march forward, particularly in the lucrative U.S. market. In late May, Illinois became the latest state to legalize recreational marijuana by passing bill HB 1438. The piece of legislature was officially signed into law in June.

More than 200 cannabis stores approved in Calgary; city says market's the limit

Eleven months after recreational pot was legalized, city officials have approved 209 cannabis outlets with no end in sight to their growing number.

That’s approaching half the number of liquor stores in Calgary, which numbered about 450 in early 2018.

Neither the province nor city have set limits on the number of retail outlets eligible for approval, which means there could ultimately be many more than those 209 stores in Calgary.

“We never intended to restrict or put a limitation on cannabis stores in Calgary, just the separation distances between stores,” said Brandy MacInnis, a senior planning and policy strategist for the city.

Overcoming Canada's cannabis shortage

Shortages of Canadian marijuana appeared immediately after recreational sales of cannabis starting from October 2018.  Hence, there is a typical Canadian refrain almost lately.  Because of little inventory remaining, many stores are closed three days a week, and provincial distributors are blaming federal regulations and producers. Some of the giant retailer’s licenses have also frozen and some are limited to 25 stores on the state level.

Why a Canadian cannabis conglomerate can't make money in Oregon

Over the past year and a half, as it moved to roll up several Oregon businesses into a vertically integrated enterprise, C21 Investments Inc. stood out on the state’s cannabis landscape. But Oregon — “America’s incubator of cannabis brands,” as former CEO Robert Cheney once termed it — is proving to be a daunting market.

A new CEO, Sonny L. Newman, is now trying to shore up money-losing operations in Oregon while turning to his home state of Nevada as C21’s best growth opportunity.

Banff gets its first cannabis retail store

If good things really do come to those who wait, Banff, Alberta, will be a very happy place this fall.

Almost a year after Canada legalized cannabis for recreational use, the town is finally getting its first retail stores. A small commercial district and strict regulations have resulted in the community lagging behind other areas in the province.

Cannabis storefronts are restricted from setting up shop on lucrative Banff Avenue and from having street-facing windows or being within 30 metres each another or a school. Just one of the five town-approved retailers — Spiritleaf Banff — has managed to satisfy all the criteria and is set to open its doors on Oct. 1.

Everyone was expecting that the legalization of adult-use marijuana would create a “supernova” on the stock market. There was a stellar explosion but only in the valuations of the cannabis companies.

Weedora, an unlicensed cannabis store in Toronto, hands out $200k in vouchers for free weed

Several unlicensed cannabis dispensaries in Toronto opened for business this weekend in defiance of the city’s efforts to keep them shuttered.

Weedora, an illicit pot business owned by Chris James, even claimed to distribute $200,000 in $100 vouchers for free cannabis. The owner claims he made the move in protest and to bring attention to the difficulties he and other cannabis small businesses are facing under current regulations.

B.C. pot firm Evergreen Medicinal’s licence suspended by Health Canada

British Columbia-based cannabis producer Evergreen Medicinal Supply Inc.’s licence to grow and sell marijuana was suspended by federal regulators, the latest compliance shortfall to hit Canada’s legal pot market.

Health Canada spokesperson Tammy Jarbeau confirmed to BNN Bloomberg in an email that the government agency suspended Evergreen’s ability to “cultivate, process and sell dried and fresh cannabis, cannabis plants and cannabis seeds” in August following an unannounced inspection that led to a non-compliance order on the company.
