Police destroy massive marijuana operation in northern Mexico

Federal police seized and destroyed 300 tons of marijuana in Balleza, a Mexican city in the northern state of Chihuahua, according to an EFE report.

“The plantations were spread out over a surface of approximately 94,629 sq. meters (23 acres), with a density of seven plants per square meter. The approximate weight of the 662,000 plants reached 300,000 kilos,” the Mexican National Security Commission said.

The marijuana “plantations” were discovered during police surveillance flights around Balleza and the plants were “pulled up by the roots so they could later be incinerated,” according to the National Security Commission.

Hemp is increasingly popular in Parliament, before long it will be law.

A new step forward for the bill of the Movimento 5 Stelle to support and encourage the industrial hemp sector. In the House Agriculture Committee, in fact, with the incorporation of the changes which have taken over the conditions of the relevant committees, the bill before signing Loredana Lupo (M5S) finally has a single text shared by all political forces. Another element that makes you feel closer to final approval: a vote that could be early as next week with the final discussion of the measure in the legislature.

Legalise cannabis debate: Only 14 out of 650 MPs take part in parliamentary discussion on drug

Just 14 out of a possible 650 MPs attended a parliamentary debate on whether Britain should legalise the production, sale and use of cannabis, despite it being triggered by a petition that attracted nearly a quarter of a million signatures.

The debate in Westminster Hall was scheduled after a petition arguing legalising cannabis couldbring in £900m ($1.3bn) in taxes every year to the UK, save £400m on policing, and create over 10,000 new jobs was signed by 220,000 people, making it the third most popular parliamentary petition ever.

Marijuana Could Change the 2016 Election

Several states will be voting on whether or not to legalize marijuana in the 2016 election. We know for sure that Arizona, California, Nevada, Maine, and Massachusetts will be voting on the issue, and that Missouri, Michigan, and Florida might join that group soon.

That's how the question arises: Will states voting on legalizing marijuana affect who becomes the next president?

Nevada and Florida are both sought-after swing states: Whoever wins in those states often wins the election. So how do things change in the upcoming presidential election if marijuana is likely to be legalized in these states?

African nations consider legalized marijuana

The cultivation and use of marijuana is rapidly rising across Africa as farmers, hit by low commodity prices, increasingly see the drug as a cash crop.

Pressure for legalizing marijuana is increasing in many African countries as legalized pot in the U.S. and Uruguay leads the way.

“At the moment, farmers choose to cultivate marijuana over traditional crops because it commands a far higher market price on the black market both at home and abroad,” Zambian Green Party President Peter Sinkamba told Anadolu Agency.

Canadians Backing Pot Legalization, Top Adviser Tells Steven Blaney

OTTAWA — Canadians are "increasingly likely" to support the legalization or decriminalization of drugs, including marijuana, the public safety minister's top bureaucrat has quietly advised.

It's a message that runs counter to the Conservative government's firm opposition to softer penalties for recreational pot smokers — an issue that has flared up regularly on the federal campaign trail.

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau proposes legalizing marijuana — selling and taxing it much like alcohol — while the NDP's Tom Mulcair has come out in favour of decriminalizing pot. Trudeau has argued legalization would help shield young people from marijuana by closely regulating a trade now run by criminals.

"Lives Are at Stake": GOP Senator Suggests Marijuana Can Be Deadly

A U.S. senator on Thursday connected President Barack Obama’s comments on marijuana to drug overdose deaths.

Amid a lengthy speech calling for increased penalties for drug offenders, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) noted that Obama had admitted to smoking marijuana. Last year, the president said that marijuana is not more dangerous than alcohol.

“I think it needs to be said that the president should never have said smoking marijuana is like smoking cigarettes: ‘Oh, I wish I hadn’t done it,’ Sessions said on the Senate floor. “That is the kind of message people hear. Now we have states legalizing it, and they are already talking about recriminalizing it. It is a mistake. We have seen that experiment before. Lives are at stake.”

Colorado's monthly marijuana sales top $100 million

Marijuana sales blazed past the $100 million mark for the first time in August, the Denver Post reported over the weekend.

According to sales data from Colorado’s Department of Revenue released Friday, sales of recreational pot topped $59.2 million for the month, while medical marijuana dispensaries pulled in $41.4 million, for a combined $100.6 million — the highest monthly total since legal recreational cannabis sales began there in January 2014.

Florida Attorney John Morgan To Match Every Donated Dollar To Medical Marijuana Campaign ...

Last year I declared Florida attorney John Morgan to be ‘Philanthropist of the Year.’ The award seemed fitting considering how much of his own money John Morgan put up for the 2014 Florida medical marijuana campaign. The last number I heard was that he donated between 4-8 million dollars for the campaign, which was just two percentage points away from passing. John Morgan is back at it again for the 2016 cycle. He recently announced that he would donate 9 dollars to the campaign for every 1 dollar donated by someone else. You donate $10, he chips in $90. You donate $100, he throws in $900.
