MCALLEN, Texas – A previously deported illegal alien from Mexico who had been convicted in the U.S. in connection with a large marijuana plantation is back in the U.S. and in handcuffs.

U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested 42-year-old Victorino Betancourt Meraz earlier this week in the border city of Encino, court records obtained by Breitbart Texas revealed.

During questioning, Betancourt Meraz told agents that he had illegally crossed into the U.S over the weekend. Authorities did a records check on the illegal alien and discovered that he had been deported on May 7 through El Paso, Texas.

According to Paraguay’s attorney general the country’s Indigenous population is being coerced into illegal drug trafficking.
​Illegal narcotics organizations operating in East Paraguay are using the local Indigenous population as “drug slaves”, Paraguayan Attorney General Christian Roig said on Thursday.

“The Indigenous peoples are used as drug slaves. With very little money they are forced to cultivate marijuana because they lack institutional support from the state. The local criminal organizations take advantage of this,” Attorney General Roig told EFE on Thursday.

Paraguay is the primary producer of marijuana in South America and one of the largest suppliers in the world after Mexico.

A Greek couple were caught with 23 kilos of cannabis in their luggage at Larnaca airport on Friday evening.

According to the police, the Greek 54-year-old man had arrived on a flight from Athens. When customs police search his luggage, they found 12 kilos of the drug in 10 separate packages.

The man had arrived in Cyprus with his 48-year-old wife, also from Greece. The woman had already passed through customs.

The woman, who had already cleared through customs, was located by men of the Anti-drug Squad (YKAN).

Her luggage, abandoned at the airport, was found to contain another seven packages with a total of 11 kilos of cannabis.

The couple were arrested, and following police interrogation admitted their guilt.

Recreational marijuana use is legal in Oregon, but that hasn’t stopped the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) from engaging in an eradication program costing American taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.

In 2014 alone, the agency spent $960,000 to remove 16,067 pot plants in the state of Oregon, where the drug was made legal in 2012. If you do the division, the price tag comes to almost exactly $60 dollars per plant destroyed. The number appears even more startling when considering the average nationwide per-plant-destruction cost is $4.20, the Washington Post reported Thursday.

Pope Francis criticized the global War on Drugs in his address to the United Nations on Friday. While the Catholic Church’s Vicar of Christ did not prescribe specific solutions, he spoke plainly the shortcomings of efforts to combat drug trafficking and the effects on everyday citizens.

The United States Justice Department just announced that it will instruct all U.S. attorneys to no longer prevent any Native American tribes from growing, or selling marijuana on reservation land.

This includes reservations within states that prohibit marijuana use, as the reservations are sovereign entities, apart from the states that surround them.

That means, in the words of High Times, “the law of the land will be left up to each individual tribe.”
