Vietnam veteran denied pain pills after testing positive for marijuana

TOPEKA (KSNT) — A nationwide argument between the veterans administration and groups which represent the rights of veterans emerged in Topeka Tuesday.

That issue is whether veterans should be denied prescription medications because they use marijuana for physical or emotional pain even in states which allow medical marijuana use.

We found out about it when a Vietnam veteran contacted KSNT News.

“I went in to get a refill on my pain medication and they refused to let me have it, because I have marijuana in my blood,” Gary Dixon, Vietnam veteran.

Will Hillary Clinton Smoke the Peace Pipe With the Marijuana Lobby?

Hillary Clinton says she has never smoked pot, not even as a bell-bottom-wearing undergraduate in the 1960s. Her husband’s administration went nuclear in the War on Drugs. During the 2008 campaign, she publicly opposed marijuana legalization.

But it’s now seven years later, and the marijuana industry isn’t selling baggies and answering beepers. It’s a $2.7 billion business—the fastest-growing in the United States—and one that operates without any legal sanction in four states, is decriminalized in 16 others, and is permitted for medical use in a few more.

Police seize £2 million of cannabis from Bromley home

Police have arrested a man after finding almost three quarters of a ton of cannabis from a home in Bromley.

Officers executed a search warrant during a planned operation at the address in Glenview Road, Bromley, yesterday morning. The cannabis haul has an estimated street value of £2 million.

A man in his 50s has been arrested at the address on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs. He remains in custody in a police station in south London.

The raid this morning was a response to tackle the blight of drug dealing on the streets of south London. It sends out a strong signal to those involved that we will not tolerate their activities.

Joy Davies, B.C. Liberal Candidate, Defends Past Remarks On Pot

OTTAWA — A Liberal candidate in British Columbia's Lower Mainland is standing by comments she made on Facebook saying that marijuana causes no harm to children and decreases domestic violence, and that the Canadian Cancer Society supports big pharma.

South Surrey–White Rock candidate Joy Davies told The Huffington Post Canada on Wednesday that she believes Canadians are ill-informed about the benefits and risks of marijuana.

Health Canada has "harmed millions of Canadians," she said, by preventing easy access to marijuana to those suffering with chronic pain.

But her opponent in the hotly contested riding — a former safe Tory seat — believes Davies is out of touch with the riding's priorities.

The war on drugs is a battle the United Kingdom is currently losing

The campaign to decriminalise drugs is winning new supporters. In the light of the latest drug death figures is it not time to consider it seriously?

The United Kingdom is currently fighting a war in which thousands of British people die needlessly each year. Deaths that the government, the media and the general population are guilty of turning a blind eye to.

This isn’t a small war either and it is one that takes place in the North East, in fact, it has been going on in the UK for over 40 years with the death toll climbing at an alarming rate.

Missouri marijuana campaign hires top political consultant

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) _ Supporters of medical marijuana in Missouri have hired a prominent political consultant to help with a campaign to put a proposal on the 2016 ballot.

New Approach Missouri’s new consultant Jack Cardetti met this week with marijuana advocates at an event at Busch Stadium.

Cardetti worked on Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon and Secretary of State Jason Kander’s campaigns.

Cardetti says New Approach Missouri plans to hire people to collect enough voter signatures to get the medical marijuana proposal on next year’s ballot.

Medical and recreational marijuana proposals failed in 2012 and 2014 to collect enough signatures.

New DEA Chief: Marijuana Has No Medical Use, Should Stay in Schedule I

The head of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) made headlines last month by admitting that marijuana is less harmful than heroin, but in a new interview he says that cannabis should not be reclassified under federal law even though “it certainly is not as dangerous as other Schedule I controlled substances.”

Campaigners are joyous after Parliament was pushed into the move by a 210,000-strong petition on its own website.

Today the petition became one of two to have a formal date set for its debate - the other is a bid to sack Jeremy Hunt.

It will be discussed in Westminster Hall, the second-biggest Commons venue after the chamber itself, on October 12.
