Less is more? Discover medical cannabis micro-dosing

The world of cannabis dosing can be really confusing. Newcomers have no idea where to start and even the experienced cannabis consumer might very well be taking in more cannabis than their body actually needs.

I mean, what even constitutes a dose anyway? How do we factor in the natural variables that come with different strains and cannabinoid profiles? And how does THC tolerance play into all of this? Is it possible that many of us are in fact overdosing?

This is what I love about the concept of micro-dosing with cannabis. As a daily consumer of medical marijuana, it gets me asking important questions and thinking about my regimen in a whole new way.

Medical marijuana patients still face hurdles in New Jersey

CHERRY HILL, N.J. (AP) - Michelle Teel sees a pain specialist to help her manage the devastation that five years of breast cancer treatment has wreaked on her body. The 35-year-old Deptford woman suffers from bone pain and a stubborn six-inch leaking wound on her chest that won’t heal.

Oxycodone does little to ease her discomfort.

“I’m in pain every day,” the former reporter said.

“If I come up with the money, I want to try the (medicinal) marijuana,” Teel said. “I want to be on something that works.”

Windsor doctors get crash course in medical marijuana

Doctors nervous about prescribing medical marijuana got some answers Thursday night at an information session for physicians.

It was hosted by Canadian Cannabis Clinics, the company operating a cannabis clinic in Windsor.

Tim O'Callaghan, one of the physicians who attended, says marijuana has not been subjected to the same rigorous approval process as other new drugs.

"By the time it gets to us, in terms of being able to prescribe it, we've got very solid evidence around what the indications are for that medicine and what the right patient is to use it on," he said of drugs.

O'Callahan also says trying to figure out if a patient is faking an illness to get a marijuana prescription makes some doctors skeptical.

Hawaii: Medi-Pot For Anxiety, Insomnia?

It took 15 years to evolve from legalizing medical marijuana to allowing dispensaries, but additional changes could come much quicker.

It’s only been three months since Gov. David Ige signed a bill legalizing medical marijuana dispensaries in Hawaii, but lawmakers are already drafting new legislation to amend Act 241.

Potential amendments range from eliminating the ban against interisland transport of medical cannabis to adding new qualifying ailments such as anxiety and insomnia.

Course available for doctors to be certified to prescribe medical marijuana

In order to prescribe medical marijuana, doctors must pay for an online course, which has some patient advocates worried it will deter physicians from getting certified.

With controversial legislation comes a set of guidelines, and that’s what’s happening with medical marijuana.

“She didn’t have seizures from day one,” Nancy Rivera said of 8-year-old Charlotte Figi.

The Colorado girl had frequent seizures since she was a baby, but now she’s being treated by medical cannabis.

“She’s almost 9-years old, and this was her first day of school ever,” Rivera said. “She has never been to school because of the seizures.”

A look at medical marijuana in Illinois' neighbor states

Illinois isn’t the first state in the Midwest to allow medical marijuana. Minnesota and Michigan have active cannabis programs for patients, while other nearby states are considering legislation. Some states allow children with seizures to be treated with cannabidiol oil, or CBD, a marijuana extract.

Here’s a look at where Illinois’ neighbor states stand:

- Wisconsin: Allows possession of non-psychoactive CBD oil to treat seizure disorder. Legislation to allow adults to use marijuana for recreational or medical reasons has been introduced, but it is unlikely to pass the Republican-controlled Legislature.

Australia: Cannabis for the Clarence

CLARENCE residents have approached State MP Chris Gulaptis with the idea of growing medicinal marijuana crops in the Clarence region.

"I have already been approached by constituents to see what the process involved in growing medicinal cannabis," Mr Gulaptis said.

"I have been in contact with the Minister about the constituents' views, but it is still early days so I cannot be sure what will happen during the trial period."

Mr Gulaptis welcomed the New South Wales Government's decision to begin medicinal marijuana trials.

"I think it is important that we proceed with the trials to see the benefits of medicinal marijuana," he said.

"If people are not getting full relief from traditional medication then we should try all new measures available to us.
