CT: State Gets 19 Proposals For Medical Marijuana Dispensary Expansion

The state wants to add as many as three medical marijuana dispensaries — especially in New Haven and Fairfield counties — and now there are 19 proposals for rolling out the expansion.

Details of the proposals — the names of the applicants or the dispensary locations — weren't available late Friday from the state Department of Consumer Protection. The applications had to be submitted by a 3 p.m. deadline and the details had yet to be compiled, officials said.

"We think we had a great response," Jonathan Harris, the department's commissioner, said. "We have a healthy pool from which to do our analysis and make an appropriate selection of up to three."

Selections will be made by early next year, and the new outlets could be open by June, Harris said.

Australia: Doctor supports drug plan

MILDURA general practitioner Ravi Ravoori has welcomed the Victorian Government’s plans to legalise the use of medicinal cannabis in exceptional circumstances.

The state government is considering recommendations from the Victorian Law Reform Commission on how to change the law to allow this type of medical treatment to occur.

Dr Ravoori said the use of medicinal cannabis would benefit people with epilepsy, cancer and Parkinson’s disease.

The state government is partnering with the New South Wales government for Victorians to participate in clinical trials next year.

Medicinal cannabis is legal in Canada, Austria, the Netherlands, Israel, Spain, Italy and more than 20 states in the US.

Ireland: Mum launches fundraising bid to get epileptic son to US for medical marijuana treatment - Irish Mirror Online

A mum is desperately trying to raise funds to bring her toddler son to the US to be given medical marijuana as he suffers from up to 20 seizures a day.

Yvonne Cahalane said the pioneering treatment may be 21-month-old Tristan’s best chance at life since he was diagnosed with rare Dravet Syndrome a year ago.

She added the severe form of epilepsy means her son must be monitored constantly and that everything in their house is padded.

Yvonne, from Dunmanway in Cork , told the Irish Mirror: “It’s horrible to watch him have seizures.

“In the moment you just get on with it or they could be fatal. They usually last around 15 minutes but if it goes on any longer then we do get scared.

Canadian Marijuana for Trauma program aimed at veterans but attracts civilians

A veteran's centre in Cape Breton is now helping about 80 people access medical marijuana, but many of them have not served in the military.

The Marijuana for Trauma Inc. centre opened in Sydney in June. The primary focus was to help veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, but volunteer Joe MacGillivray says the patient list is growing beyond that.

"We have cancer patients that are coming through, people that are in constant pain," he said. "People that just had surgeries."

He says two patients, for instance, had operations on their backs and were on heavy pain medication, but were searching for alternatives to drugs such as Oxycontin and Dilaudid.

Parents still hope to treat baby with cannabis oil as her condition improves

VANCOUVER - Parents of a severely ill baby girl in British Columbia say they will not give up their fight to gain full custody and treat her with cannabis oil, despite dropping court action that sought greater control of her care.

A lawyer for Justin Pierce and Michelle Arnold withdrew the application on Wednesday because five-month-old Mary Jane Pierce has been breathing without a ventilator for two weeks.

But the couple still hope to show they deserve full custody and the right to give her the oil at an upcoming protection hearing. The Ministry of Children and Family Development obtained temporary custody in August and will hold a hearing to determine whether to make it permanent.

Mass. Woman Fired For Using Medical Marijuana

BOSTON (CBS) – Cristina Barbuto started a great new job last year.

It lasted one day.

“I felt discriminated against,” Barbuto told WBZ. “I felt like, this is wrong, this can’t be.”

As a condition of her employment, Advantage Sales and Marketing gave Barbuto a drug test.

“I wanted to be honest, so I was up front and honest with my supervisor and said, ‘You know, I am going to fail this part of the drug test, so I just wanted to make you aware,’” she explained.

Barbuto has Crohn’s disease. When she’s suffering from a flare up, the pain can be excruciating. From time to time, she relies on her prescription for medical marijuana.
