PM DITCHED DRUG REFORM VIEWS WHEN HE BECAME TORY LEADER

"I would be unsurprised when he leaves office if he doesn’t revert to views he held before," says Blunt

David Cameron dumped deeply held views on the need for drugs reform – forged by a close relative’s addiction – so he could become Tory leader, a senior MP said last night.

As a newly elected MP, Mr Cameron was a passionate campaigner in Parliament for the 40-year-old laws to be reviewed, and claimed the war on drugs had failed.

His strong stand came from having to witness a close relative’s “crippling and life-threatening drug addiction”, a new biography of him by Lord Ashcroft has revealed.

But he carried out a total U-turn to oppose any change when he stood to be the new leader of the Conservative Party in 2005.

Texas Hog Hunters Discover Sprawling $6 Million Weed Farm

Officials with Texas Parks and Wildlife announced last week that officers raided a large and sophisticated marijuana growing facility in the remote swamps of northeast Texas. About 80 miles north of Dallas and inside the 14,480-acre Cooper Wildlife Management Area, several hog hunters stumbled into a sprawling marijuana farm that held more than 6,500 mature plants.

Texas officials said that if not for the occasional report from hikers, hunters, and other adventurous outdoorsmen, many of these operations would never be found. Even so, illegal marijuana cultivators have learned to avoid the most popular hunting seasons.

How legal marijuana is working in Seattle

Seattle- Legalizing marijuana in the state of Washington has eliminated wasted police time and effort pursuing non-violent drug cases and led the community to instead look at it as a health issue, according to backers of drug reform laws in Seattle. The movement has allowed the opening of hundreds of retail shops selling pot. John Davis, owner of the Northwest Patient Resource Center, a medical marijuana shop, has been a long-time advocate for pot use to help people deal with a variety of ailments.

Dagga dealers shift ownership or rotate members

Prosecutor Mncedisi Dlamini said sometimes during trial, families members shift the ownership of the dagga to one of the family members, usually the head of the family.

Police officers usually arrest everyone that they find in that particular homestead or car and charge them with dagga possession.

Sometimes family members found in one car would claim that they got a lift. He said it was not easy to prove that they all owned the dagga as they were all aware of the consequences of its cultivation, hence they would be released.

Usually, the released members would go and pay the fine for the incarcerated member.

Medical marijuana case dismissed for second time since 2012

LANSING — For the second time, the case against a Lansing man involving the state’s medical marijuana law has been dismissed.

This time, the case against Michael Lewis, which has been in the court system since 2012, was dismissed by Ingham County Circuit Court Judge Rosemarie Aquilina when she granted a defense motion to dismiss on grounds of entrapment.

“Overall, I’m really proud of law enforcement on every level,” she said. Aquilina added that it’s a dangerous job and police officers get it right most of the time, but “in this particular case it is troublesome.”

Attorneys for the two other defendants, Daniel Corbin and Zebediah Dewey, charged as a result of the same undercover operation will have to file their own motions to dismiss.

David Cameron feud with Lord Ashcroft: PM 'indulged in drug taking and debauchery', billionaire donor alleges in new book

Lord Ashcroft fell out with the Prime Minister after he was passed over for a leading role in the Coalition Government

David Cameron has been accused of being a member of another debauched Oxford society apart from the Bullingdon Club, allowing cocaine in his London home and misleading the public over the non-dom status of former Conservative party treasurer Lord Ashcroft in a new biography co-written by the peer.

Lord Ashcroft, who was once close to Mr Cameron, fell out with the Prime Minister after he was passed over for a leading role in the Coalition Government.

The book, Call Me Dave, which was written with journalist Isabel Oakeshott and is to be published next month, makes a number of damaging claims, according to the Daily Mail newspaper.

How former junkie capital of Europe Portugal halved number of addicts by ending prosecution of users

It was known as the biggest drugs supermarket in Europe. A shanty town on a hill to which 5,000 junkies a day would flock to peddle their lethal wares or get their fix.

People using needles in the street hardly raised an eyebrow. Dead bodies lying around on the pavement were a common morning sight.

Casal Ventoso was not just a mad, bad neighbourhood of Lisbon. It was a byword for hell in a country ravaged by narcotics abuse.

Portugal’s drugs tzar Dr Joao Goulao says: “Almost every morning we’d find dead bodies. Around 5,000 came every day to buy, sell and take drugs. The impact on public health was huge.”
