Chatham-Kent police are thanking the public for continuing to send in tips about where people are growing marijuana.

According to police, members of the local police force’s Intelligence Section and Community Patrol located and pulled out approximately $1.48-million worth of marijuana this week alone.

The plots were found in 40 separate locations across the municipality.

Officers say the tips came from local farmers and other members of the public, adding they were able to spot some of the fields with the help of a local air service company.

Police are still on the hunt for more marijuana plants, so if you spot any, you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

By law, New York’s medical marijuana program is due to be up and running for patient prescriptions by early 2016, but what’s the future of the program after that? Will enough patients sign up? Will doctors be willing to issue prescriptions?

For now, state leaders say it’s unclear how many people they expect to qualify for the program.

"I think as we roll out the program, we’re going to get more information so, right now, I anticipate there will be patients who want this therapy and we’ll have more information in the months to come," said Health Commissioner Howard Zucker.

The National Police have dismantled a secret crop of marijuana in Orihuela, which had 375 plants, and arrested three men accused of a public health offence and electricity fraud.

The operation started when an off duty officer noticed two people violently tampering with the lock on the door of a house. When he asked what was going on, he noticed they seemed nervous considering one of them claimed to live there.

The police went about checking who owned the property and then noticed there was a strong smell of marijuana coming from inside and so applied for a search warrant.

A cannabis dealer has been jailed for 16 months after being caught with £6,000 worth of the drug which he claimed he took to stop him dying in his sleep.

Gordon McIntosh turned to the class B substance after a life-changing car crash which left him in a medically induced coma for months.

The lasting effects of the accident included the potentially fatal disorder sleep apnoea and the Forfar 50-year-old believed the drug helped reduce the lethal risk of the condition, which puts sufferers at risk through irregular sleep-time breathing.

But when police raided his home in January this year they discovered a major haul of herbal cannabis and cannabis resin, along with over £1,000 in cash.

A series of feisty exchanges marked Thursday night's debate on the economy, as the three federal leaders launched pointed attacks on each other's plans on a range of issues, including jobs, energy, deficits and infrastructure.

This second debate, certainly a higher energy affair than the first, saw Conservative Leader Stephen Harper on the defensive during attacks from NDP Leader Tom Mulcair and Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau, who claimed his economic policies have resulted in hundreds of thousands of job losses and stagnant economic growth.

In 2012 Coloradans approved Amendment 64, which legalized marijuana for recreational use, by avote of 55 percent to 45 percent. Last February a Quinnipiac University poll found that 58 percent of Colorado voters supported that decision, while 38 percent opposed it and the rest weren’t sure.
