Mayor's office tries to combat synthetic marijuana with multiagency approach

To combat the sale of synthetic marijuana, Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Thursday the city has been organizing a multiagency attack, which led to the massive takedown earlier this week and fewer emergency room visits.

The initiative, which started in July, includes the Drug Enforcement Administration and the city's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. On Wednesday, 10 men were charged with running a synthetic marijuana ring that sold more than a quarter million retail packets.

Rand Paul hits Jeb Bush on marijuana rich kid 'hypocrisy'

Bush admitted in previous interviews and again during Wednesday's Republican presidential primary debate smoking marijuana while attending the prestigious Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts.

"He didn't go to jail," Paul told students at the University of Nevada-Reno on Thursday. "Why? Because he was rich, and he was elite, and he was going to a very special school."

Paul said he didn't begrudge Bush's education, but said that Bush supports policies that disproportionately result in minority and lower-income young people going to jail for lengthy sentences.

"What I do have a problem with is he still wants to put kids in jail for marijuana," Paul said. "What I was upset with Jeb Bush was his hypocrisy."

Marijuana: The Gateway to the White House

During last night's Republican debate, Jeb Bush, one of the leading Republican candidates and former Governor of Florida, admitted yet again to smoking marijuana when he was young.

"Forty years ago I smoked marijuana, and I admit it."

This is commonplace now if you're running for President. Clinton admitted it, Jeb's brother George W. admitted it, and so did Obama. Apparently, one of the side effects of marijuana use may be the Presidency of the United States -- use with caution.

And that is the hypocrisy. The hypocrisy that Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky pointed out on stage last night: "The people going to jail for this are poor people, often African-Americans and often Hispanics, and yet the rich kids who use drugs aren't."

Cannabis activists to march through Vienna

Austrian cannabis activists are holding a ‘social march’ in Vienna on Saturday 19th September to protest against the planned reform of drug laws which will still criminalize patients who use cannabis to treat pain and symptoms of disease.

Organisers expect up to 10,000 people to join the march, which begins at 1pm at Museumsquartier, and will then progress along the Ringstrasse, crossing the Aspernbrücke and ending up in the Prater on Jesuitenwiese at 6pm, for an 'after-party'.

Huge tax boost from Colorado marijuana

The temporary tax break could cost Colorado up to more than $NZ6m in revenue.

Colorado saw a sales increase last year in all three tax classes of alcohol.

Here’s how it all fits together. By comparison, state alcohol excise taxes raked in about $42m (£27m) – up 2.4% from 2013, the state said. The one-day pot tax holiday came after the state underestimated its overall state tax collections last year.

Curt Steiner, a political consultant and spokesman for Ohioans Against Marijuana Monopolies, said the report is handwriting on the wall if Ohio approves legalizing marijuana for recreational and medicinal use.

The scheme developed by DHV and submitted by the hemp friends of Münster petition for a pilot project for municipal cannabis delivery has led to the goal: The city council of Münster has confirmed, according to a Twitter posting of the SPD today, an appropriate template with the votes of all parties except the CDU. This is not only a success of our 2013 launched campaign for municipal model projects, but also and especially the years, regional lobbying our local Ortsgruppe.

Republicans Get Blunt About Marijuana at GOP Debate

When talk turned to weed at the tail end of last night's three-hour Republican primary debate, the candidates delivered some of the most spirited exchanges of the evening.

Rand Paul, the libertarian-leaning senator from Kentucky who has long championed cannabis legalization, wasted no time in calling out what he described as the hypocrisy of enforcing laws against marijuana. In doing so, he also put the heat on Jeb Bush, calling out the former Florida governor on his pot-smoking days in high school.
