Published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry, the research reveals two previously unknown "signaling platforms" in cells that allow THC, the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis known for producing the "high" sensation, to shrink some cancerous tumors.

A mum and daughter have told how they blew £30,000 in benefits on cannabis.

Unemployed Bethany Burnett was just 16 when she became hooked on the drug and spent the above sum over three years - all funded by her mum Marie’s child benefits and her own Job Seeker’s Allowance.

Two weeks ago Bethany was rushed to hospital after smoking cannabis through a bong and collapsing while her heart rate sky-rocketed.

She has now sought professional help and has been taking a concoction of daily medication to help beat the addiction.

'Cannabis could help reduce tumour growth in cancer patients'

Submitted by Marijuana News on Mon, 07/14/2014 - 20:00

Cannabis could be used to reduce tumour growth in cancer patients, scientists have said.

New research reveals the drug’s main psychoactive ingredient — tetrahydrocannabino (THC) — could be responsible for its success in shrinking tumours.

It is hoped the findings could help develop a synthetic equivalent with anti-cancer properties. But researchers warned that cancer sufferers should not be tempted to self-medicate.

Dr Peter McCormick, from the University of East Anglia’s school of pharmacy, said THC’s anti-cancer properties have been known for some time but the study had identified the receptors responsible for fighting tumours.

Crop King Seeds, a breeder of marijuana in Canada, has released what the company calls "the world's first” recreational pot commercial. Cue the uncontrollable laughter.

The Vancouver company has posted the part advertisement, part pro-marijuana public service message on YouTube, but has yet to air the spot.

“We wanted something that not just advertise [sic] our company but also something that promotes a healthier alternative to alcohol and tobacco,” Crop King Seeds said in a statement. “We want to break the stigma that marijuana has earned from years of media brainwash and manipulation.”

Medical marijuana delivery services are on a roll

Submitted by Marijuana News on Mon, 07/14/2014 - 06:02

Brian Reichle couldn't have gotten a pepperoni pizza much faster.

Needing to replenish his stash of pot one recent afternoon, the Burbank resident dialed Speed Weed. Within the hour, a driver arrived with a white paper bag carrying a gram of cannabis, 10 joints and a handful of pot-infused candies and cookies.

"They come to my house, and they're in and out," said Reichle, 39, a comedian who spends about $100 a week on medical marijuana. "I shouldn't have to go to a store."

Once a small, word-of-mouth phenomenon, mobile marijuana businesses now number in the hundreds across Southern California. Nationwide, pot delivery services have nearly tripled in three years, from 877 to 2,617, according to Weedmaps, a Yelp-like online directory for pot businesses.

Scientists reveal how THC – found in cannabis – ‘could slow cancer tumour growth’

Scientists at a British university have made a major breakthrough in revealing how cannabis could be used as a treatment to prevent the growth of cancer.

David Cameron: We call on you to legalise Cannabis.

Submitted by Marijuana News on Sat, 07/12/2014 - 14:44

You don't have to use cannabis to support legalisation, just like you don't have to have cancer to support a cancer charity.

Cannabis has been proven to have many health benefits and to date, not one person has ever died of an overdose of cannabis - it just isn't possible to do.

Cannabis is classified as a schedule 1 drug in the UK because it has NO medicinal benefits but 'Sativex' (Cannabis oil and alcohol) is a schedule 4 because of it's amazing medicinal benefits for those with MS - This simply doesn't make sense.

I want to see a UK where people are allowed to grow their own medicine without fear of prosecution, a UK where consuming cannabis is not seen as a criminal offence.
