Justin Trudeau Prepares To Tackle Marijuana Legalization

OTTAWA - As Justin Trudeau prepares to tackle the politics of legalizing pot as part of his Liberal government's legislative agenda, industry experts say he will have access to a world-class marijuana framework set up under the Conservative government.

Chuck Rifici, co-founder of Canada's first publicly traded marijuana manufacturer, says a renowned production and distribution system has already been established under the medicinal umbrella.

Rifici — also a volunteer chief financial officer for the Liberal party's national board of directors — credits Stephen Harper for the country's expansive marijuana infrastructure.

Cannabis Fundraiser for US War Veterans

Veterans who serve their country “often face insurmountable challenges,” says the founder of Green Soldiers Healers.

Cannabis is said to have medicinal benefits that would otherwise require cocktails of alternative  ingredients. It is hoped that the fundraising event scheduled to take place on 8 November 2015, which is sponsored by Kiva Chocolate, Refined Bud and others, will allow the veterans to find out more about the medicinal uses of the drug.

How Important Is the 2016 Election for Cannabis?

Cannabis legalization has, in an historic turn of events, become a notable topic in the 2016 race for president of the United States. The subject has come up in both the Republican and Democratic debates with even Jeb Bush admitting that he smoked (and inhaled) with only a laughing "sorry, Mom" as an apology.

Australians Overwhelmingly Support Medical Cannabis

A recent poll in Australia found that 91% of those asked–644 individuals aged 14 and older–support medical cannabis. Interestingly, support was highest among those older than 50.

This isn’t entirely surprising, considering Australia is known as one of the countries in the world, alongside the U.S., with the highest cannabis consumption. Still, a majority there do not support legalization for non-medical use.

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA — Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders went farther than any of his opponents in calling for an end to the war on drugs Wednesday when he told college students at George Mason University it was time to “to remove the federal prohibition on marijuana.”

Sanders said a shift away from criminal prosecutions for marijuana could improve the lives of black Americans he said are unfairly burdened with criminal records for doing something Americans of all races also do.

Will Canada Become Pot Tourism Destination? Don't Count on It, Eh

Despite incoming Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's vow to legalize recreational marijuana "right away," travelers thinking of heading north to get high are in for a buzz kill.

While Trudeau's plans to legalize pot have sparked a gold-rush mentality among pot proponents and enthusiasts, regulations and tax rules are likely years away, experts say. Even then, it's not clear whether legality will lead to a significant marijuana tourism industry, given the onward march of legalization efforts in the U.S.

Activists hope Mexico top court breaks pot ban

Mexico's Supreme Court will debate on Wednesday a citizen group's bid to legally consume marijuana, an effort that activists hope will break pot prohibition in a country beset by drug violence.

The legal battle is being waged by the Mexican Society for Responsible and Tolerant Personal Use, whose Spanish acronym spells "SMART" and which argues that federal laws violate their fundamental right to smoke weed.

While the court's ruling would only apply to SMART, a decision in favor of the cannabis club could open the floodgates for others seeking to legally smoke marijuana in Mexico.

Margaret Trudeau, who quit marijuana for mental health, says legalization is 'different issue'

Margaret Trudeau once said that quitting marijuana helped improve her mental health, but she stands behind her prime minister-designate son’s plan to legalize pot, which she says is a “whole different issue.”

In an interview with CTV Canada AM co-host Marci Ien, Justin Trudeau’s mother seemed taken aback when asked about her previous comments on marijuana.

At a mental health conference in 2007, Trudeau said that her battle with mental illness involved completely giving up marijuana, which she started smoking at a young age.
